Obituary of O. J. Sterling

O. J. Sterling, 66, of Fred, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at his home. He was a kicker on his high school football team at Warren High School. He was a big NFL fan and his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. He had been an oil field worker for Reading and Bates, which allowed his to travel all over the world. He later ran his own business as an air conditioner repairman. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed talking to people and telling stories. He was a very smart man, he taught his children mathematics and how to play Chess. One of his hobbies was being a gunsmith, he could build and repair any type of gun; he even reloaded rifle bullets. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Katherine Sterling; siblings, Sonny Sterling and his wife, Jane Sterling, Loree Gieger and her husband, Wilburn, and Ottis Sterling; father-in-law, Jack Spurlock; and brother-in-law, Dale Spurlock.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Charlotte Sterling of Fred; children, J. D. Sterling and wife, Juanita of Austin, Shaunna Hill and husband, Justin of Beaumont, and Michael Sterling and fiancée, Shayna of Beaumont; mother-in-law, Shirley Spurlock of Fred; brother-in-law, Bryant Spurlock and wife, Gina of Silsbee; nephews, Kyle Sterling and wife, Paula of Beaumont, and Kevin Sterling and wife, Angie of Francisville, LA; and his faithful companion, his English bulldog, Bacon.

His family will receive friends at Farmer Funeral Home on Saturday May 12, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Franks Branch Cemetery in Fred.

Serving as pallbearers will be Peter LeBlanc, Jack Spurlock, Kyle Sterling, Jr., James Blades, Jeff Wales, and Carroll Hatton.
