Agnes McMillan

Obituary of Agnes Elsie McMillan

It is with bittersweet joy that the family of Agnes McMillan announces her passing on September 21, 2018, at 99 years of age.

Agnes was born on February 14, 1919, at home near Livingston in Polk County, Texas, to Walter Joseph Williams and Dora Magdalene Wiggins Williams. Her brothers were Edgar and Estes, and her sisters were Macel, Evie, and baby sister, Maggie.  Agnes started school at age 7; and in Goodrich High School, she won medals in baseball and basketball. Agnes accepted Jesus as her Savior at age 16 and was baptized in Kickapoo Creek.  Agnes married Allen McMillan in 1937 and had one daughter, Lindavaye.  They moved to Silsbee in 1950, and Allen passed away in 1959.

Agnes worked in Beaumont as a nurse’s aid at St. Therese Hospital and then as a ward secretary at St. Elizabeth Hospital.  She retired in 1984 having never missed a day of work in 28 years.  She remained active with family and church activities, Eastern Star, and maintaining her yard and home. She sewed clothes and quilts and made many cross-stitched wall hangings and baby blankets as well as crocheted lap throws and pillows. She was a wonderful cook.  Agnes always visited relatives and friends and was always available to help them in any way.

Agnes loved her family so much and always remembered every birthday and detail of every member’s life.  She will lovingly be remembered by her daughter, Linda Beall, and son-in-law, Bob Beall; grandson, Allen Beall, and his wife, Wynonne; granddaughter, Brenda Beall; granddaughter, Sharon Johndrow, and her husband, Pat; grandson, Daniel Beall; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Black, and her husband, Mike, and their daughter, Adelyn; great-granddaughter, Kristen Beall; great-granddaughter, Hanna Tidwell, and her husband, Barnett, and their son, Warren, and one on the way; and great-grandson, Drew Beall, and his wife, Brooke, and their boys, Carson and Jackson Jones, and one on the way.  Agnes was so proud of her five nephews and one niece as well as her extended family and enjoyed many happy family reunions.  She also loved many special friends and neighbors. Her remarkable sense of humor and love for Jesus will always bring a smile to our hearts.

Her family will receive friends on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 350 US 96 Business, Silsbee, TX, with Dr. Scott Moody officiating. Interment will follow at Menard Chapel Cemetery, Livingston, TX.
