Obituary of David Carlton Bass Sr.

Mr. David Carlton Bass Sr. of Silsbee, Texas, passed away Thursday October 25, 2018, in Beaumont, Texas, at the age of 83 years, 8 months, and 19 days.

Mr. Bass was born February 6, 1935, in Negreet, Louisiana, to parents Dave Bass and Emma Lee Bass and grew up in the Sabine Parish, Louisiana, area. He and Lorena Kelly were married July 4, 1954, and moved to Hardin County, Texas, in 1956. David retired from Temple-Inland Paper Mill in Evadale, Texas, in 1997 after 39 years of experience.

A longtime faithful Christian, David was ordained as a deacon at North Hardin Baptist Church and had also later served at Friendship Baptist Church as a deacon as well as a youth director with his wife and worked with the church’s bus ministry. In later years he has been a member of Faith Family Baptist Church.

Mr. Bass enjoyed gardening but his great passionate love was his wife and family. He had really enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lorena Bass of Silsbee, Texas; a daughter, Wanda Pike and husband Michael Sr. of Jasper, Texas; sons, David “Carl” Bass Jr. and wife Jean of Silsbee, Texas, and Ronnie Bass of Silsbee, Texas; a sister, Maxine Lovelady of Diboll, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Pike Jr., Kellie Smithson, Justin Bass, Ashley Yount, Sharlyn Whitson, Katy Large, Katelyn Wagstaff, and Ethan Wagstaff; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Emma Lee Bass; brothers, Marion Bass and Sam Bass; and sisters, Mary Spears, Willie Mae Wedgeworth, Bertha Wedgeworth, Eva Mae Hartman, and Louise Hippler.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 28, 2018, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Home, located at 415 N. Fourth Street in Silsbee, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2018, at the Farmer Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chris Tatom and Bro. Van Lowe officiating. Interment will follow at Farmer Memorial Cemetery, located at 820 S. Third Street in Silsbee, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Michael Pike Jr., Justin Bass, Bryan Whitson, John Large, Colton Yount, David Young, and Ethan Wagstaff.
