Joel Swearingen

Obituary of Joel Pierson Swearingen

Joel Pierson Swearingen, 74, of Lumberton, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018. He was born in Beaumont on March 4, 1944. Joel was a welder by trade and then became a professional truck driver, working for Coastal Transport. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing with his children. He loved with his whole heart, and never met a stranger. Family was top of his priority list, right under God! He had faults as we all do, but he loved the Lord and was always quick to share Him with whoever would listen, and lots of times with those who didn’t want to listen. He read his Bible daily and would weep for his family in prayer. He took good care of his family, especially after his wife went to Heaven in October of 2001. There will forever be an empty spot in the hearts of his family, but they rejoice in the fact that THEY WILL SEE HIM AND HIS WIFE AGAIN IN HEAVEN!

He is preceded in death by his wife, Patty Rinker Swearingen; parents, Frank and Alice Swearingen; siblings, Bo Swearingen, Evelyn Smith, Toby Swearingen, frank Swearingen, and Peggy Holmes.

Joel Is survived by his loving children, Kimberly Parker and husband, Robert of Lumberton, Tina Swearingen of Lumberton, Vicky Guillory of Lumberton, Joel W. Swearingen and wife, Tammy of Lumberton, and Kevin Swearingen and wife, Christi of Lumberton; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service at Parkway Life Church of Lumberton is pending.

Joel’s family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to everyone for their prayers and words of comfort.
