Obituary of Evelyn Allen Monk

Mrs. Evelyn Allen Monk of Lumberton, Texas, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, at her residence at the age of 88 years, 1 month, 17 days.

Mrs. Monk was born October 20, 1930, in Evadale, Texas, to parents John D. Fosha and Dora Beatrice Beatty Fosha. She moved with her family to Silsbee, Texas, at the age of 10 and has been a Hardin County resident for 78 years—the last few years in Lumberton, Texas.

Evelyn began to work in banking at Hardin Savings & Loan, beginning a career that spanned 31 years until her retirement as a vice-president. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, most recently at the First United Methodist Church in Kountze, Texas.

She had a great love for her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren. Evelyn also enjoyed cooking and working crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader, as well.

Her survivors include her sons, Jonathan Allen and wife Brittany Harmon Allen of Lumberton, Texas, and Paul N. Allen and wife Cecelia A. Brown Allen of Lumberton, Texas; her daughter, Laura Arena and husband Danny Arena of Kountze, Texas; a sister, Nelda Fay Wolcott of Kountze, Texas; grandchildren, Lisa Allen, Kelly and Ty Gwynn, John and Erica Custer, Kathleen and Colt Westbrook, Katherine Allen, and Nolan Arena; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Athan C. Allen Jr. in 1959 and James W. Monk in 1979; a grandson, Athan S. Allen; as well as her parents.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2018, at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel, located at 415 N. Fourth Street in Silsbee, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Smith and Rev. Eldon Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery on S. Third Street in Silsbee, Texas.
