Obituary of Dwain Adcock

Mr. Harlie Dwain Adcock of Lumberton, TX, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018, in Beaumont, TX, at the age of 85 years and 6 days after a long illness.

Dwain was born December 12, 1933, to parents Herbert Victor Adcock and Neva M. Maret Adcock in Proctor, TX. Dwain and Syble Taylor were married May 3, 1953, and resided in Dumas, TX. They have lived in Southeast Texas since 1966 — first, moving to Beaumont and then relocating to Lumberton in 1996.

Dwain worked for Mobil Chemical in several capacities before retiring in 1998 as a production supervisor. He worked for Mobil from 1966-1975 and 1981-1998. He also worked for Phillips 66 from 1952-1966 and Estech Corporation 1975-1981.

In his early years, Dwain was an outstanding high school student and athlete. He was involved in Future Farmers of America and was an Eagle Scout. He also served in the National Guard Ready Reserves for 3 years during the Korean War, where he retired as a Master Sargent with an honorable discharge.

Dwain’s primary focus in life was his work in the Lord’s Kingdom.  He labored for the Lord all of his life in various capacities, including as a deacon, elder, teacher and preacher. He worked with the Pinecrest/Dowlen Road, Northwest, Major Drive, and Lone Oak Church of Christ congregations while living in the Southeast Texas area.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family.  He & his wife of 65 years were inseparable.  Dwain would always explain to others “They were attached at the hip.” And you rarely saw one without the other.

His survivors include his wife, Syble Adcock; daughters, Desi Smith and husband David of Silsbee, TX, Rena Baxley and husband Billy of Beaumont, TX, and Cyndi Crews and husband David of Lumberton, TX; grandsons, Byron Smith and wife Sheri, Christopher Smith and wife Amber, Kyle Baxley and wife Tracey, Kenny Baxley, and Reagan Crews; great-grandsons, Kade Smith, Daniel Whittaker, Mitchell Smith, Brenden Galloway, Hayden Matlage, and Keaton Smith; great-granddaughters, Kali Smith, Kimberli Smith, and Jayden Matlage; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Robert Adcock; and sister, Regina Ann Adcock Bragg.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 20, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Home, located at 415 N. Fourth Street in Silsbee, TX.

Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018, at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel with Max Dawson and Russ Bowman officiating. Interment will follow at Farmer Memorial Cemetery, located on S. Third Street in Silsbee, TX, with rites provided by Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Byron Smith, Christopher Smith, Kenny Baxley and Reagan Crews; great-grandsons Kade Smith and Daniel Whittaker.  Honorary pallbearers are grandson Kyle Baxley; great-grandsons Mitchell Smith, Brenden Galloway, Hayden Matlage, and Keaton Smith.

Syble and her family wish to offer special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staffs of Baptist Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Dubuis Hospital, Kate Dishman Rehabilitation Center and Bonne Vie Care Center; his sitters, especially Peggy Parrie and Betty Nichols; their “adopted daughters,” Tami Browning and husband Duane, and Meshell Heartfield and husband Clint; and numerous brethren, friends and neighbors for their visits and support throughout the last three years.
