Obituary of Dorothy Mae Cowart

Dorothy Mae Hollyfield Cowart of Evadale, Texas, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018, at the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 16 days.

Ms. Cowart was born October 7, 1934, in Silsbee, Texas, to parents William Stanley Hollyfield and Rannie Lou Callaway Hollyfield. Dorothy had been a resident of Evadale since 1955. She was one of the most selfless people, exhibiting the very definition of humility. She spent her life taking care of children—not only her own children and grandchildren but many through the years at the nursery of Evadale’s Central Baptist Church as well as in her home.  Dorothy made all children feel like they were part of her own family.

Her survivors include her children, Christi Cowart Fling and husband Roy of Evadale, Texas, Cathy Cowart Humphrey of Lumberton, Texas, Edward “Buddy” Cowart and wife Carrie of Wildwood, Texas, Mary Cowart Spears Zalar and husband Mark of Atascocita, Texas, and John Cowart and wife Norma of New Braunfels, Texas; sister, Joy Marie Hollyfield Torres of Silsbee, Texas; brother, Robert Stanley Hollyfield and wife Joyce of Silsbee, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Amber Fling Schroeder and husband Lance, Jennifer Fling Hubley and husband Scott, Keith Humphrey, Brooke Humphrey, Dustin Cowart and wife Jessie, Andrea Cowart, Mallory Cowart Lovinggood and husband Joseph, Brandon Spears and wife Lenee’, Hailey Spears Fernandez and husband Christian, Jacob Cowart and wife Kelly, Jordan Cowart, and Maggie Cowart; 18 great-grandchildren, Sam Fling, Betsy Pickard, Hannah Hubley, Nathan Hubley, Henry Hubley, Ryanne Cowart, Joel Cowart, Olivia Grace Cowart, Will Cowart, Carson Spears, Piper Spears, Jemma Spears, Gabriella Fernandez, Grayson Fernandez, Kenzie Schroeder, Kyndall Schroeder, Kade Schroeder and Olivia Catherine Cowart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James Arven “Sonny” Hollyfield and Hannon Rufus Hollyfield; and sisters, Katherine Hollyfield Rowles and Mary Lou Hollyfield Perrio.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 26, 2018, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Farmer Funeral Home, located at 415 N. Fourth Street in Silsbee, Texas.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Micah Stringer officiating. Interment will follow at Franks Branch Cemetery, located on FM 92 South in Fred, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Spears, Dustin Cowart, Keith Humphrey, Jacob Cowart, Jacob Jackson, and Jonah Jackson.
