Obituary of Joe David Nelson

Mr. Joe David Nelson of Silsbee, Texas, passed away Monday, January 28, 2019, at St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, at the age of 80 years, 4 months, and 11 days.

Mr. Nelson was born September 17, 1938, in Stowell, Texas, to parents Richard E. Nelson and Laura Bouse Nelson. He was a graduate of East Chambers High School in Winnie, Texas. Early in life, Joe began a career with Temple-Inland at the paper mill in Evadale, Texas, and retired with 35 years of service. Working at the paper mill, he developed many lasting friendships. He loved his family above all else. Joe and the former Imogene Blake were married January 18, 1958. He was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church.

His survivors include his wife of 61 years, Imogene B. Nelson; of Silsbee, Texas; daughters, Becky Muckleroy and husband Don of Silsbee, Texas, Vicki Weaver and husband Bruce of Orangefield, Texas, and Sherri Hickerson and husband Dwayne of Buna, Texas; granddaughters, Jennifer Dauriac and husband Byron, Carlea Crosson and husband Doug, Jessica Ferrell, and Danielle Wehmeyer and husband Mark, all of Silsbee, Texas, Lauren Barron and husband Brandon of Webster Groves, Missouri, Kristen Boatman and husband Kyle of Flower Mound, Texas, and Autumn Root and husband Craig of Orangefield, Texas; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Nelson of Winnie, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, R.E. Nelson; and his sister, Shirley Bellar.

Services are set for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel, located at 415 N. Fourth Street in Silsbee, Texas, with Pastor Bill Coffey and Bro. Robert Carter officiating. Interment will follow at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery, located on S. Third Street in Silsbee, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Weaver, Dwayne Hickerson, Don Muckleroy, Bryon Dauriac, Doug Crosson, Mark Wehmeyer, and Kyle Boatman. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Davis and Jerry Castilaw.
