Obituary of Doyal Edward Parker

Mr. Doyal Edward Parker of Jasper, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019, at his residence with his wife beside him at the age of 92 years 5 months, and 29 days.

He was born September 18, 1926, in Zavalla, Texas, to William Henry and Valeria Gibson Parker.

Doyal was a high school graduate and a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He was also a logger, mechanic, parts salesman, and avid gardener. He loved being outside working in the yard and garden as well as working on mechanic projects and building things.

Doyal was born and reared in a Pentecostal church. Although he wasn’t affiliated with a church in recent years, he was a firm believer in Jesus and the right way to live.

Doyal was married on October 11, 1947, to Erma Jewel Rhodes. They were married for 71 ½ years.

He was preceded in death by his “second set” of parents, D.B. and Josie Rhodes; five brothers-in-law; a son-in-law, Kevin Thomas; his parents, William Henry and Valeria Parker; and sisters, Bernice Jones and Pauline Jones and their husbands.

His survivors include his wife of 71 years, Erma Parker of Jasper, Texas; daughters, Debora Parker Morgan of Little Cypress, Texas, and Linda Parker Thomas of Lewisville, Texas; grandsons, Jamey Morgan of Groves, Texas, and Cody Thomas of Lewisville, Texas; granddaughter-in-law, Rachel McGee of Groves, Texas; sisters-in-law, Patsy Herring and Joyce Faye Rhodes, both of Lumberton, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Home, located at 415 N. Fourth Street in Silsbee, Texas.

Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronald Herring and Rev. Tommy Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow at Franks Branch Cemetery, located on FM 92 South of Fred, Texas, with military rites offered by Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jamey Morgan, Cody Thomas, Roger Herring, Lane Rhodes, Lesley Rhodes, Jeff Rhodes, Randy Rhodes, and Kevin Rhodes.
