Obituary of Genevieve Davis

Genevieve Mary Lou Davis, 96, of Evadale, TX, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019. She was born Genevieve Mary Lou Rogers on Jan. 18, 1923.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Garland R. Davis; son, Robert T. Davis; brother, Walter S. Rogers, Jr. and grandson Robin Ray Colvin.

She is survived by her sister, living in Halletsville, TX; daughters, Mary Stiebing, JoAnn Whitmire and Bonnie Denby; five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Faith, Family and Home were the three most important things in Genevieve’s life. Her Catholic faith has been with her all of her 96 years, spending 40 years going to St. Mark’s here in Silsbee with her husband. She never missed church until she became too ill with dementia, but she still tried to say her Rosary every night when she could remember to do so along with the prayers she said to watch over her family. You could count on her to send up any extra prayers if you had a need.

She was a true housewife, spending all of her time raising her girls and keeping her home clean and open to all family. Her husband and children were truly her life.

If you knew Genevieve you knew of her love of music and the color purple. Music seemed to be in her soul. She loved listening to it, dancing to it and especially playing her pianos. She loved it so much, she wanted one of her grandchildren to learn to play the piano also.

The color purple was her favorite color. Most of her clothes were purple; her bedroom, and even one of her commodes was purple.

Genevieve loved going deer hunting with her husband and family members, more for the laughs and good times, than the hunt. Sometimes you could hear her and Betty, her sister, laughing instead of paying attention to if there were deer around outside the blind.

Her vacations with Garland, Betty, Frank and her best friends, the Badon’s, would find her being the one who was cutting up and being the life of the party keeping everyone laughing. She always said, “You need to have fun and laugh a little.” She had other little sayings as well, like, “You get what you pay for,” or “ok mert.” Never figured out who mert was. As she got older, she would say, “I’m old and tired.”

Her last passion and hobby became making quilt tops and having and older lady quilt them for her who then would give the money to the church. Genevieve enjoyed making them and making sure everyone in the family had one.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m., at Farmer Funeral Home, 415 N. 4th Street, Silsbee, TX.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Andy Moore. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Silsbee, TX.
