Obituary of Jaunita Wilkerson Gay

Jaunita Wilkerson Gay, 92, of Silsbee, TX, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019. She was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Selma, AL, to Matthew and Mary Wilkerson.

Jaunita and her late husband, George Robert Gay, Sr., moved to Beaumont, TX, in 1949. In 1953, the family moved to Vidor, TX.

Nita loved to cook and always left homemade biscuits from breakfast on the stove every morning. Neighborhood kids would stop by and enjoy a biscuit like they were eating cookies. She enjoyed sharing her recipes of shrimp gumbo and chicken and dumplins.

Nita sewed for her daughters and friends: dresses, prom dresses and wedding dresses. She always had a garden and enjoyed canning. Some of the special times included fishing at Lake Sam Rayburn and traveling with her husband, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Robert Gay, Sr.; son, George Robert Gay, Jr. and grandson, Todd Flanders.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Johnson and husband Sherrill of Holly Lake Ranch, TX, Shela Fancher and husband Charles of Silsbee, TX; daughter-in-law, Gail Gay of Valdese, NC; grandchildren, Daryn Flanders, Michelle Hutto and Heather McClammy; great niece, Melissa Spell, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her dog Misty.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, May 12, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Farmer Funeral Home, 415 N. 4th Street, Silsbee, TX.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., at Farmer Funeral Home, with Brother Robert Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, Vidor, TX.

Serving as pallbearers will be Lavoy Wilkerson, Steven Stanley, Jason Spell, Pierre Wilkerson, Jerry Goins and Jerry Joe Wilkerson.
