Obituary of Joan Marie West Adkins

Mrs. Joan Marie West Adkins of Evadale, Texas, passed away Monday, May 20, 2019, at her residence at the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 25 days.

Mrs. Adkins was born June 25, 1944, in Leesville, Louisiana, to parents Cecil and Cissie West. She had been a longtime resident of the Evadale area and graduated from Buna High School. She was a homemaker and had great pleasure in taking care of her family. Joan was a member of Evadale’s First Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

Her survivors include her children, Sherry Ann Murphy, Pamela Alicia Linch and husband Hank, and Douglas Dwayne Murphy and wife Kellie, all of Evadale; brothers, James West and wife Cathy of Evadale and Brian West and wife Debbie of Spring; grandchildren, Daniel Lee Williams, Deven Dwight Murphy, Megan Alicia Linch, and Heather Layne Murphy, all of Evadale; step-grandchildren, Kiley Linch and Kelli Pruitt, both of Mississippi, and Shelby Hanks and Ashley Townsend, both of Evadale; great-grandchildren, Jaden Wayne Williams, Mattlynn Marie Appleby, Rylan David Appleby, Gatlin Lee Murphy, and Griffin Lyle Murphy, all of Evadale; and nine step-great-grandchildren..

She was preceded in death by her husbands, David Lee Murphy and Hearl Adkins; parents, Cecil and Cissie West; and brothers, Cecil West Jr, Norman West, and Steve West.

A graveside service is set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2018, at Morse Cemetery, located on County Road 777 near Buna, Texas.
