Obituary of Cora Woodard

Cora Shuptrine Woodard, 100, of Silsbee, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019. She was born in Camp Worth, Texas on February 17, 1919. She was a spirited woman who loved laughing, dancing, and her family. She was a pioneer entrepreneur among women in her day, as she owed her own business, a beauty shop, for the affluent of Beaumont. She became interested in real estate and even dabbled in that field. She attended church functions, did fundraisers for impoverished families, and delivered boxes of food during the holidays.

Cora was a devoted mother, attending Little League, Pony League, Teen Age League, and High School Baseball games her son, Robert played in. She volunteered to work the concession stands. On her spare weekends, she would drive back to Silsbee to help her parents and sister with whatever she could do.

Cora married Walter (Woody) Woodard on May 12, 1978. They moved to Rusk, Texas. While in Rusk, she and Woody became Certified Ombudsmen for the nursing home industry. She would pamper and fix hair for little gray-haired ladies and give hair cuts to all. She was always very giving and ready to assist anyone who needed help.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter (Woody) Woodard; parents, Joseph Lee Shuptrine and Minnie Ola Humphreys, sister, Irene Sims; brother, Ellis Shuptrine.

She is survived by her son, Robert Pope and wife, Jane; grandson, Jason Pope; sister, Josephine Rivers, nieces and nephews, Sylvia Shuptrine, Dorthy Burk, Roy Sims, Jerry Sims, J. L. Sims, Eddie Joe Sims, James Sims, and Glenda Sims.

Her family will receive friends at Farmer Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bernard Stott. Later that day Cora Woodard will be laid to rest at Blue Springs Cemetery in Etoile, Texas.
