Obituary of Melvin Kenneth Shavers, Sr.

Melvin Kenneth Shavers, Sr., 88, of Silsbee, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 17, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones.  He was born in Leesville, LA on May 18, 1931. Melvin was a faithful member of the Church of Christ of Kountze, where he was affectionately known as “The Candyman”. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force. Melvin spent his career in sales, working for Britton Cravens, Apache Industries, and Ogilvie Hardware. He had a great sense of humor and was a practical joker. Melvin was an avid farmer.  He loved growing vegetables in his garden and giving them away. No one left his house without vegetables and eggs. Melvin will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

 Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Norris Shavers and Estelle Ola Jeane Shavers; and brothers, Claude Ford Shavers, and Jimmy Wade Shavers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Vera Shavers of Silsbee; children, Kay Shavers Granger and husband, Terry of Silsbee, Melvin Kenneth “Kenny” Shavers, Jr. and wife Jan of Silsbee, and Sherri Shavers Morris and husband, Justin of Silsbee; sisters, Eloise Clark, Nelda Dowden, and  Jeanelle Isgate; brother, Charles Shavers and wife, Wanda; 7 grandkids; and 11 great-grandkids.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 at The Church of Christ of Kountze, officiated by Heath Stapleton.

The honorary pallbearers are Chad Richard, Cody Crosby, Kyle Shavers, Ryan Shavers, Garen Crosby, Joey Richard, Maxen Crosby, and Ace Alday.
