Obituary of Gladys Mary Elizabeth Ruggles

Gladys Mary Elizabeth Hoke Ruggles was born on November 8, 1922, is Silsbee, Texas to Guy Hoke and Eda Arabelle Frazier Hoke. She attended school in Silsbee and was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities, including Relief Society president. She was a worker in the Dallas Temple for several years. She and her husband were custodians of the Silsbee Ward for a long time. They made numerous trips to Salt Lake City for General Conference. They loved gardening and camping at Dam B with family and friends. She was a genealogy enthusiast, making numerous trips to Woodville and other places to search courthouse records. She wrote letters to people all over the country searching for information on the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 45 years, Samuel Arthur (S. A.); and her siblings, Johnny Curtis, Aaron Cuyler, Hazel Jane, Grace Lena, and James Raymond Hoke.

She is survived by her son, Arthur Ray Ruggles and his wife, Katie; three grandchildren, Arthur Ray Ruggles, Jr. and his wife, Jessica, Angela Gordon and her fiancé, Shawn Fullmer, and Allison Nguyen and her husband, Max. Her nine great-grandchildren were her special joy, Caleb and Baileigh Ruggles; Mackenzi, Maci, Maryn, and Megan Gordon; and Kallee, Kindred, and Kaiden Nguyen. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Her family will receive friends at Farmer Funeral Home on Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Silsbee, officiated by Bishop Brian Bebee. Interment will follow at Cunningham Cemetery.
