Obituary of John William Greubel

     John “Jack” William Greubel, 83, entered his Lord’s presence on August 4, 2019 in Red Oak, Texas at Red Oak Health and Rehabilitation Center. His family cared and supported him for the past couple of years as Jack fought vascular dementia. Jack was born September 20, 1934, to his parents Anthony “Doc” Greubel and Helen Ziliak Greubel in Evansville, Indiana. At the age of 12, Jack learned to play the drums. As a young man, he developed his music skills at University of Evansville and the Northwestern University in Chicago. Following school Jack moved to Nashville only to be drafted by the army for the Korean war. In 1962, he returned to Nashville where he became a studio musician and played with the the likes of Roy Orbison, Patsy Kline  and Dolly Parton. During the 60’s, he sang and played the drums for the vocal group Hilltoppers, which in 2005 were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In the 70’s, Jack played the drums for the vocal group Master’s Three consisting of Boots Randolph, Chet Atkins and Floyd Cramer. In 1981, Jack met the love of his life, Mary Lorraine Stokes, and the two were married in Evansville in July 3, 1981, where Jack began selling pianos for Schuttler’s Music.  In 1999, Jack and Lorraine retired to Granbury, Texas, so he could spend his time fishing, but Jack still couldn't leave music behind and played in a couple of music venues and even started his own venue called Warm Country Heart. In 2011, Jack and Lorraine moved to Red Oak to be near their daughter and her family. We will always remember Jack’s quirky sense of humor, the twinkle in his blue eyes and his kind and most generous character.

    Jack was pre-deceased by his father, Anthony Frank Greubel and his mother, Helen Greubel; his two sisters, Wanda Harvengt and Colleen Dickinson. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lorraine Greubel of Red Oak, Texas; his step-son, Todd Stokes of Louisville, Kentucky; his step-daughter, Dana Maners and her husband Barry Maners and his grandchildren, Ethan Maners, Kayla Maners and Adam Maners all of Red Oak, Texas.
