Obituary of Homer Lee Spurlock

Mr. Homer Lee Spurlock of Silsbee, Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at his residence at the age of 73.

Mr. Spurlock was born December 17, 1945, in Spurger, Texas, to parents Homer Clark Spurlock and Lucie Gore Spurlock. Growing up and spending his early years in Spurger, he lived in Silsbee most of his adult life.

So many things in life brought joy to Homer's life, however, the most important was spending time with his family. Most close to him affectionately referred to him as "Papa." An avid outdoorsman, Homer was always happy to be hunting, fishing, or trapping. He was also an expert gardener and grew lots vegetables that he loved sharing with his family and friends. He had his own smokehouse and enjoyed spending countless hours making sausage or curing other meats.

He was a hard worker for all his life. He worked as a young boy picking vegetables for a truck farmer near his home as well as helping his father. As an adult he worked at Kirby Lumber as a millwright and South Hampton Refinery. He became an accomplished welder he joined the Pipeliners Union 798 and was self-employed for about 20 years. He used his welding and engineering skills to build or repair many projects throughout the United States but mostly in Texas.

His survivors include his wife, Patsy Mullins Spurlock of Silsbee, Texas; his son, Johnny Spurlock of Kountze, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Robert Stephens of Fred, Texas, Evelle and Herbert Jacks of Silsbee, Texas, and Tina and Mike Collier of Rochester, New York; grandchildren, Kristen Westbrooks, Lonnie Ryan LeBlanc, John Collier, Ashleigh Culver, Gretchen Pulliam, Hailey Teets, Zachary Stephens, Meagan Spurlock, and Amelia Spurlock; great-grandchildren, Sophia Dalpiaz, Kaylee Westbrooks, Kendal Westbrooks, Audrey Culver, Ava Culver, Anika Pulliam, Avery LeBlanc, Felicity Teets, and Hunter Stephens; and his siblings, Mattie Louise Saucier, Patricia Gail McKee, Shirley Ann Drake, Homer Clark Spurlock Jr., and Cecial Gore.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Spurlock; his parents, Lucie and Homer Clark Spurlock; and siblings, James Earl Spurlock, Jack Spurlock, and Nellie Sue Spurlock.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 17, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel, located at 415 N. Fourth Street in Silsbee, Texas.

Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2019, at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel. Committal service and interment will follow at the Warren City Cemetery, located on County Road 1550 in Warren, Texas.
